Marina Calamai ( Arezzo Italy 1962) lives and works in Florence. Her first passion was music: at 12 years old she began to study piano.
At 18 years old she studied music and painting at the Martenot School in Florence (in 1982 one of her paintings was exhibited in a group show at the Martenot sister school in Paris). Having studied classics and passed her fifth year piano
exams at the Conservatorio, Marina moved to Paris where she studied under the clothes designer Alain Lalou, and then at the American Academy of Paris, where she began to work as an independent clothes designer between 1983-85.
Having returned to Florence, Marina began a frenetic and impassioned period of 13 years work in fashion design.
Her artistic studies continued in 1998 in New York at the Art Student League with the painter Peter Cox, followed by work under the artists Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky at the Lorenzo de Medici School in Florence.
She then began to exhibit in public and private art galleries.
